One of the loneliest journeys that anyone walks in their adult life is on their finances. No matter what people may say or advise, the money choices are ultimately personal decisions. Each one of us will have to walk this journey alone no matter how close you think your loved ones or friends are close to you.
Even when your spouse or children are involved in your income-generating activities, certain choices will have to be very intimate to the individual. I recently read a very interesting comment that eventually each man has to live their faith and do their dying. When the final rights will eventually be done for each one of us, it will surmise the wealth legacy that we will leave behind.
Previously, I have also shared that no one can lead another through a journey that they have not travelled themselves. The data tells us that a very small minority ever get to break through into the league of wealthy individuals. That means the pool of people who can lead you into the real world of money and wealth diminishes the higher you go up.
So what to do if you are to win this game that shall ultimately require you to walk a lonely journey:
- Seek wise counsel where you can from men and women ahead of you in the wealth rudder -it is quite unfortunate how most people seek money advice from people either at the same level or below them. To progress you would need to engage those playing in a higher league than you so that they may show you the ropes to hold onto to grow;
- Always remember no one can take responsibility for your finances on your behalf – this is one responsibility that cannot be transferred to any other person outside you. The rules of natural justice dictate that each one of us has to take up our financial obligations the moment we reach the age of majority. This is a cross each one of us will have to carry;
- Take a calculated risk when necessary – acknowledge that we do not live in a perfect world. Thus, you will never have all the facts in your hands when making certain key financial decisions. So weigh the facts and trudge on and progress will be found;
- Accept that you will lose some money along the way – the reality of money is that you have to use money to make more money. That means in the process of trying to earn or make more, sometimes you make missteps and lose money. The rule of the thump is that don’t cry over spilled milk, move on and get the cow to other greener pastures so that it can produce some more;
- Take stock often, pick lessons from your missteps and keep growing – no one starts perfectly, the road to money and wealth is full of bends and turns and paved of marram. Sometimes it will get rough, but never surrender, keep moving no matter what.
