We all have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 12 months and 365/6 days a year; yet the productivity for each one of us varies dramatically for this equal God given resource.
Why is it that only a select few are able to get most from their time while majority of us do not? Beyond time, the creator has also gifted each one of us in a special way, but still most people never get to live their dreams.
In this article, I demonstrate how we waste mental energy, time and sacrifice our internal peace for failure to lead ourselves effectively. I am yet to meet any successful person in whatever field who is or was not able to lead themselves in their chosen craft.
Here are five critical things to think and reflect about:
- If you lack discipline with your time, your day will always be chaotic – this simple basic thing impacts a lot on your productivity. For most people, they are very tired and miserable by the time they get to their work places. By waking up late for instance, everything is done in a helter -skelter manner leaving you drained, moody and infringing on the freedoms of others early in the morning. No matter how much you try –you can never give your best if you always start with a confused morning.
- The tranquility and peace of early morning is not only golden, but spiritually nourishing –those of us who have experienced the early morning ‘me time and space’ understand this best. The thing is, you can never know it until you experience the wonder of early mornings to fix your life, reflect and plan for the day ahead. There simply is nothing more to explain –just try it yourself!
- If one aspect of your life is left unattended, the rest of your life will definitely be thrown off balance –look for instance when you fail to take control of your finances. Just imagine how much energy, time and effort is expended trying to borrow or ask for money from other people; Imagine how you become a nuisance to other people’s lives, how it affects your standing among colleagues, friends and peers; think of how it batters your self-esteem and confidence? How do you expect to make the best of your life in such an environment?
- To thrive, be productive and a blessings to others and society, you must have internal harmony and peace –the human mind and body is conditioned to work best only at certain levels of peace and operating conditions. Stress and unnecessary pressure robes you of the optimal and necessary conditions to be your best and put the finest effort required to overcome the chaotic outside environments. Even little stress is big enough to robe you of your best efforts.
- Nature is orderly by itself, being chaotic in your private life is in conflict with this order – while we blame everything else external for our miserable internal lives, the truth is God’s creation is quite orderly and perfect in its own way. It is for us to adjust into this order of the creator and not the other way round. The ultimate measure of your ability to lead yourself is being able to adapt into whatever ecosystem you are in, make the best out of it and thrive within it. That is the mark of excellence in personal leadership.
As I conclude therefore, if you fail to take charge of the things within your control, you can never adapt to those things that you have no control over.
If you are chaotic and miserable in your private life, then be sure you will transmit your problems to your loved ones, family, friends, colleagues, society and country in general.
Just imagine how many troubles people are going through in their homes, family, community and in the society simply because many people have failed to fix their lives internally?
