Gambling is a sure BET that you will die poor!

This week, there has been news that Kenyans blew a whopping KES.766 billion in gambling in 2024. With 365 days in a year, this translates to over KES.2 billion daily.

Of those surveyed, at least 82.81% had placed a bet. Profiles of the prolific betters were boda boda guys and university students.

This is a continued evidence of the Gambling craze in the country, from previous years as reported in other government money tracking reports.

Here are the facts from this bad and toxic habits of Kenyans:

1. Gambling is a poverty mentality habit – serial gamblers imagine there is an easy path to money and wealth. The sad reality is that there is no one in the world, throughout economic history who gives free money;

2. Gamblers throw away good money chasing what does not exist – the only person who makes money in gambling is the owner of the gambling business, not the gambler. Fact is every single bet is stuck against millions of chances against winning;

3. Gamblers think they are clever than the system the game is set against – the sad truth is that the system is designed to only allow an extreme minority of winners against millions of losers. Years ago, when an East African Breweries Promotion campaign design system failed and awarded easy winners, the owners of the company cancelled the promotion immediately, and heads rolled at top management levels;

4. Gamblers fail to understand time tested rules of money – easy money goes easily. That explains why even the few lucky winners in gambling lose what they won shortly after;

5. True wealth ultimately is what is justly earned and worked for – betting money leaves behind a trail of tears from millions of losers who placed money meant to buy food or pay school fees for their children, money supposed to pay medical bills or loans borrowed for investments, others place bets from their businesses or some even steal from their family members or employers to do betting. All this points to cursed money that can only mean no good even to the winners!

As I conclude, betting only gives an extremely small chance of ever winning good money; but the betting addiction gives a guaranteed chance that you will live a life of misery, poverty and ultimately exit from this world of poverty.

The stories to this reality are all over for each one of us to see and learn from. The question is will you?
