The role of religious beliefs and faith in the real world of money

We are living at an age where people are willing to do anything to get money without work. The problem has been complicated by the emergence of all sorts of religious teachings that commonly promote a view that there is a ‘god’ somewhere who can rain money from the skies.

The theatrics some religious leaders have taken their followers to in the name of claiming money to fall on their paths borders on absurdity. The tragedy is however not these teachings per se, but the foolish belief of the faithful on such noise.

While they wait for their miracle from heaven, their leader demands them to bring the tithe, offerings, and first fruits and to buy various supposedly anointed paraphernalia with hard cash. As a consequence, as the ‘man of god’ bank account fattens with gifts from his/her followers, the poor masses go home hungry to wait for their miracle.

I know religion is a very emotive issue and most of us choose to throw away reason and common sense when our religious leader speaks. But make no mistake, Scripture itself warn of the emergence of such false preachers and teachers in the latter days.

The truth is most of these are cultic practices that can best be described as religious exploitation and deception. The Holy Scriptures are orderly and not contradictory in their nature. Any teaching that contradicts God’s divine order of things is not only false but utter nonsense.

Here are the facts on the divine order of your money and wealth:

  1. The creator’s provision is always in abundance – there is no place in the creation story where anything was ever meant to be scarce. In fact, God declares that He not only feeds the birds of the air but also clothes the lilies in the forest. So, when it rains as per His will, it rains for everyone. Any religious grouping where riches only seem to flow to the man or woman of ‘god’ is defective –be warned;
  2. There is nowhere in Scripture that God promises free money – what He has promised however is to bless the work of our hands and protect our harvest from moths, rust and thieves. So when you claim to ‘receive’ whatever it is you are been promised by your daddy or mommy with no work on your part, exactly where is that supposed to come from? What specific Scripture are they talking about?
  3. We are called to be content and humble even in our plenty – as have shared here on this page on several occasions, people who have true money and wealth will walk into a room full of people with no one noticing them. Even when they buy for themselves lavish things and toys of an earthly nature, they do not move around showing off or annoying others. The kind of flamboyance and pride some of these religious leaders subject their faithful to is ridiculous. Tragically, the faithful buy into such crap like sheep going for slaughter;
  4. God’s order of giving into His Ministry is devoid of coercion, manipulation, enticements or threats – we have been called to give back to God’s work as per our individual blessings and from the purity of our hearts. Anything else is in contravention of the divine order of things –so flee from any sort of manipulation and never look back;
  5. God’s financial blessings can only come from within and not from without – your financial blessings or breakthroughs will appear in the form of opportunities, and networks within your daily interactions, from your work and effort as guided by your faith. If you find religious leaders always calling you into places of worship when you are supposed to be working –be afraid.

From the story of creation, God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. So when your man or woman of ‘god’ wants you to be in the place of worship for 7 days a week or 5/7 days a week, when are you supposed to work and earn your bread?

While he/she is in their workplace, what about you? When are you supposed to earn the tithe and offering they demand of you anytime you attend a religious event over these 7 days?

It is incumbent for all of us to remain on guard, exercise our wisdom and most importantly study Scripture for ourselves. Never rely on only what your man or woman of ‘god’ says – Scripture warns of the arising of false prophets with false teachings in these latter days.
